THE ART OF RELATING

QUICK

PROGRESS BAR

SPEAK, LISTEN, & THINK SUBJECTIVELY

Train yourself to speak, listen, and think in a subjective manner. When someone asks “What happened at the meeting?”, don’t say “this is what happened”, say “this is what I experienced there”.

When recalling a memory:

A. Your the only one that knows what your memory looks like.

B. When you made the memory you left things out, added things in, and changed some things around. You could not help that. Also you colored your memory with your projections and they are different from anyone else that shared that experience.

By speaking subjectively, you can avoid a ‘who’s right’ fight. If someone says “that’s not what happened”, they are really saying that they have a different memory. You might say “I did not say that that’s what happened, I only reported what I experienced or remember and that is all.”

You're the only one that knows what your
memory looks like.
