Grounding Practice Strategies
Choose to spend the day grounded and commit to remaining grounded throughout the day. It will be easier for you to remain grounded if you use impulse control strategies.
- Some participants write the word "GROUND" on a sticky-note and place it on their mirror so that they remember to begin the day with a grounding routine.
- As often as possible when changing tasks, ground before beginning the next task. This will enable you to be present and focused on the new task, and allow you to unhook from what you were just doing.
- If you drive from home to work, hop out of your car, and hurry into the house, you are likely to carry stress from work to home. However, if you park the car and take a minute to ground before you enter your home, you will have an easier, less stressful transition.
By using impulse control strategies, you'll tend to carry less emotional baggage throughout the day, and your stress level will remain more consistent. You will be less likely to act impulsively or in a negative manner.
